Neil was simply amazing in explaining my options for roof replacement, what would look great on my home, and how he would work with my insurance company to get the best savings available. Architectural shingles are often the more popular choice amongst homeowners because of the variety of styles available for a beautiful roof. Not to mention, they can last up to a decade longer than three-tab shingles. If you are looking for a budget-friendly cedar shake or slate roof, then premium shingles are worth considering.
Most architectural roofs that are well maintained will last on average around 25- 30 years!
After your roof is about 10 years old, it’s a good idea to get your roof inspected once a year.
The main difference is that 3-tab roofs are 1 layer thick and lay completely flat. Architectural shingles have an additional layer of asphalt applied to the body of the shingle. This extra thickness provides not only additional impact resistance but also helps resist wind damage. The additional layers also give the shingle more depth which helps make the shingle pop with shadow lines.
If you plan on staying in your home for a while, 5 years or longer, then an extended warranty is an excellent option! For only around $0.15 a square foot ($15 per 100 square feet) you get a 100% guarantee against the manufacturer’s defects for 50 years. It also grants you a 10 year 100% labor warranty!! This is a tremendous value that you can only receive from certified accredited roofers. Even though it is transferable, the only reason that makes sense not to get it is because you are trying to sell in the immediate future.
